9.18.26 Release Notes | Departmental V/TOs and Rebuilt V/TO Experience

Release notes: departmental V/TOs, rebuilt viewer/manage page/builder, updated permissions, and the new four-verb document lifecycle.

This release introduces departmental V/TOs alongside a fully rebuilt V/TO viewer, manage page, and builder, along with clearer document lifecycle controls and improved permissions.

New Features

Your organization can now run departmental V/TOs alongside the company V/TO. Each department sets its own 1-Year Plan, Rocks, and Issues, while the company's Vision cascades into every departmental V/TO as read-only content. Departments can add their own notes on inherited Vision rows.

  • When creating a new draft, choose Company or Departmental as the scope — this is set at creation and cannot be changed later.

  • Departmental V/TOs require a department name (up to 60 characters). V/TO names are capped at 80 characters.

  • Your organization can have any number of departmental V/TOs.

  • Any member of your organization can read a departmental V/TO.

  • Each company or department slot can hold only one Official at a time. To publish a new Official for a slot that's already occupied, the existing Official must be returned to draft first.

Company Vision Cascades to All Departments

The company Official's Vision automatically appears as read-only content in every departmental V/TO, keeping departments aligned with the organization's direction. Departments can annotate inherited rows with their own notes without altering the company content.

Updates and Improvements

Rebuilt V/TO Viewer

The V/TO landing page now always shows your organization's company Official. The viewer displays the document name alongside a combined scope and state badge — for example, Company • Official or Departmental • Draft — so you can always see exactly what you're looking at.

Error and empty states are now distinct: if a V/TO fails to load, you'll see Couldn't load your V/TO with a Try again option instead of the empty state prompt.

Rebuilt Manage Page

The V/TO manage page has been redesigned with clearly labelled Company and Departmental sections for Official V/TOs, and a paginated Drafts table. New Type and Sharing columns show you which department a V/TO belongs to and whether it is shared with the entire company, a specific group, or nobody.

Every row now has a visible Edit button. Opening an Official from its name or thumbnail no longer creates a working copy — use Edit to explicitly start one.

Full-Screen Builder with Auto-Save

The V/TO builder is now a full-screen editing sheet that saves your work continuously as you type. You can open it from the viewer, the manage page, or any row's Edit action. Leaving the builder is non-destructive — your draft is always preserved. The exit prompt now offers Keep editing or Exit only; there is no longer a destructive exit path.

Updated Permissions

Leadership team edit access now derives directly from your Accountability Chart, so permissions stay accurate as people change seats. Working copies are private to their owner — a colleague's in-progress draft does not appear in your Drafts table or manage page until they publish.

The single Discard draft control has been replaced by four clearly named actions, each available in one specific location:

Action

Where to find it

What it does

Discard changes

Builder

Reverts unsaved changes in the current editing session

Delete

Manage page

Moves a draft to the Recycle Bin

Archive

Viewer header

Moves an Official to the Recycle Bin

Return to draft

Viewer header

Demotes a live Official back to draft so it can be edited or deleted

Recycle Bin: All deleted and archived V/TOs are recoverable from Settings > Organization > Recycle bin. Permanent deletion requires a separate, explicitly confirmed action in the bin.

Note: Documents can no longer be removed from within the builder. Use the manage page or the viewer header instead.
