Free Observers land in the V/TO area after signing in.
Who can invite a Free Observer?
Owners, Admins, and Members can all invite a Free Observer from Settings > Company > People.
If your organization has turned on "Require admin/owner approval for member invites," an invite sent by a Member waits in Pending Invitations until an Owner or Admin approves it. Invites from Owners and Admins go out right away.
You can't invite a Free Observer with Invite New Attendee in a meeting, because Free Observers can't be added to meetings.
How do I add a Free Observer?
Click your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner of EOS One.
Select Settings.
Under Company, select People.
Click Invite User.
Enter the user's First Name, Last Name, and Email Address.
From the Role menu, select Free Observer.
To invite another user, click Add another and enter the additional user's information.
Click Send Invite. When inviting multiple users, click Send Invites.
The user will receive an email invitation to join your EOS One organization.
How do I upgrade a Free Observer to Member?
A Free Observer can request an upgrade to the Member role. Only an Owner or Admin can approve the change by updating the user's role.
To upgrade a Free Observer:
Click your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner of EOS One.
Select Settings.
Under Company, select People.
Locate the Free Observer you want to upgrade.
Open the user's role menu.
Select Member.
The user receives the standard Member permission set after the role is changed.

Who can invite a Free Observer?
Owners, Admins, and Members. Members invite from Settings > Company > People, and their invites may need Owner or Admin approval if your organization has turned that setting on.
Can I invite a Free Observer from a meeting?
No. Free Observers can't be added to meetings, so Invite New Attendee (at the bottom of the Select Attendee to Add dropdown in a meeting's Attendees field) only invites at the Member level. Use Settings > Company > People instead.
Can a Free Observer see the People list?
Yes. Free Observers can view the People list in Settings > Company, including each person's role, but they can't make changes or invite anyone.
Can a Free Observer join a meeting?
No. Free Observers cannot access, start, join, or manage meetings.
Can I use Free Observers to track who attended a meeting?
Not anymore. Free Observers are view-only and don't have access to meetings, so they can't be added as attendees. If someone needs to be listed in a meeting, they'll need a Member seat. If Free Observers were already in your meetings before this change, we've left them in place as a courtesy.
Can a Free Observer be assigned Rocks or To-Dos?
No. Free Observers do not have access to Rocks, Issues, Headlines, To-Dos, the Scorecard, or Measurables.
Can a Free Observer edit the V/TO or Accountability Chart?
No. Free Observers have read-only access to the official V/TO and Accountability Chart. They cannot access drafts or make changes.
